Bodrum Airport to the Peninsula: Bus, Taxi, Car or Transfer

Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) is about 36 km from Bodrum town, a drive of 35–45 minutes in normal traffic, and the resorts at the far end of the peninsula, such as Yalıkavak, Turgutreis and Gümüşlük, are about an hour away. You can go by airport bus to Bodrum centre (270 TL in October 2026), by metered taxi, by rental car or with a private transfer at a fixed price.

Milas-Bodrum Airport at a glance

The airport is in the Milas district of Muğla province, 16 km from Milas and about 36 km north-east of Bodrum town. It is run by TAV Airports. Flights from Istanbul and Ankara operate all year, while many international routes are seasonal.

There are 2 separate terminal buildings:

  • International terminal: for scheduled and charter flights from abroad.
  • Domestic terminal: for flights within Turkey. If you change planes in Istanbul, your flight to Bodrum is a domestic one, so you land here.

Both terminals have ATMs, car rental desks and a taxi rank outside. Note which terminal you land at, because it decides which airport bus you can use.

Airport buses: Havaş and MUTTAŞ

Havaş and MUTTAŞ, the transport company of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, both run buses between the airport and Bodrum. They stop at Güvercinlik and at Bodrum's intercity bus station at the Torba junction, about 6 km before the centre, and end at the old bus station on Cevat Şakir Caddesi in Bodrum centre. The fare is 270 TL to Bodrum. You pay on board, both companies take bank cards, and seats cannot be reserved.

Buses leave the airport after flights land rather than on a fixed timetable, and the ride to the centre takes about 45 minutes. MUTTAŞ meets domestic flights and, by a decision of the airport operator, does not stop at the international terminal. If you arrive on an international flight, check with Havaş (0850 222 0 487) whether a bus will meet it. Neither company goes direct to the resorts: from Bodrum centre, local buses and dolmuş (shared minibuses) run to all the main towns and bays.

Taxis

Licensed taxis wait outside both terminals and use the meter, at a tariff set by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality. In 2026 the meter starts at 150 TL. Expect roughly 2,000–2,300 TL to Bodrum centre and 2,800–3,000 TL to Yalıkavak or Turgutreis. Time spent in slow traffic is also charged, so a summer jam raises the fare. Ask before you set off whether the driver takes cards, and carry some Turkish lira.

Rental cars

Several rental companies have desks at the airport. The airport road joins the D330, which leads to Bodrum and on to Turgutreis, with no tolls on the way. A car is handy if you want to explore the peninsula, but in July and August parking is limited and often paid in busy places such as Bodrum centre and Göltürkbükü.

Private transfer

A private transfer takes you from the terminal to the door of your hotel, villa or marina, with no other passengers. With Transfer3E, the price is fixed per vehicle and agreed in advance, with no meter: the booking form on our home page calculates it from the distance to your address. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign and helps with your luggage. Flights are tracked, delays of up to 6 hours cost nothing extra, and waiting at the airport is free for up to 90 minutes. There is no prepayment: you pay the driver in cash, in Turkish lira (TL), euros or US dollars.

Families, groups and lots of luggage

The bus is the cheapest option if you travel alone, but per-person fares add up. A family of 4 pays 1,080 TL to reach Bodrum centre, and then has to change, with all the bags, to a dolmuş or taxi for most resorts. In summer the buses can also be full.

Taxis and private transfers are priced per vehicle, so the cost per person drops as your group grows. A large family or group may need 2 taxis, while a transfer can be a single larger vehicle.

  • Luggage: Transfer3E allows 1 medium suitcase and 1 carry-on per passenger seat. With more luggage, such as golf bags or a pushchair, choose a larger vehicle (car, minivan or minibus) in the booking form.
  • Child seats: available on request, so ask for them in advance.
  • Questions: send a WhatsApp message to +90 541 334 2102. It is answered around the clock.

Marinas and upscale bays

Bodrum's upmarket side is centred on its marinas and on the bays of the north coast, where hillsides of luxury hotels and holiday villas look down on beach clubs and wooden jetties. The main ones, with the distance from the airport:

  • Milta Bodrum Marina (36 km): in the town centre, near the castle.
  • Yalıkavak Marina (53 km): a superyacht marina with designer shops and restaurants.
  • D-Marin Turgutreis (55 km): on the west coast, with shops, restaurants and a seafront path.
  • Göltürkbükü (46 km): the twin bays of Gölköy and Türkbükü, known for beach clubs, restaurants and wooden jetties. Gündoğan, the next bay west, is smaller.
  • Torba (32 km): the closest bay to the airport, with hotels and resorts along the shore.

If you are joining a yacht or gulet, give the driver the marina name and your boat's name, and check your boarding time with the charter company. For a day of beach clubs and marina restaurants, a car with a driver by the hour or day saves you looking for parking: see our chauffeur service.

Peak-season traffic and arrival tips

Traffic is the biggest unknown on the drive from the airport. At the start of the 9-day Kurban Bayramı holiday in May 2026, more than 20,000 vehicles entered Bodrum in 24 hours. Queues stretched for kilometres on Emin Anter Bulvarı and Kıbrıs Şehitleri Caddesi, the D330 main road into and around Bodrum, and in Konacık and Ortakent. In 2027, Kurban Bayramı falls on 16–19 May.

  • Allow extra time in July, August and on public holidays, especially for Gümbet, Bitez, Ortakent, Turgutreis, Gümüşlük and Yalıkavak. You reach them on the same roads that jammed in May 2026.
  • Send an exact location. Many villas have no clear street number, so share a map pin with your driver or host as well as the address.
  • Expect checks on holidays: during recent holidays, police stopped vehicles at the Torba checkpoint on the main road into Bodrum, which can slow traffic.
  • Plan your return: leave plenty of time for the drive back to the airport in summer. MUTTAŞ buses leave Bodrum centre 2 hours before each domestic flight.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Bodrum airport from Bodrum town?

About 36 km by road, or 35–45 minutes in normal traffic. In July, August and on public holidays, the drive can take much longer.

Is there a bus from the airport to Yalıkavak, Türkbükü or Turgutreis?

Not directly. Take the Havaş or MUTTAŞ bus to Bodrum centre for 270 TL (checked in October 2026), then a local bus or dolmuş to your resort. With children or heavy bags, a taxi or transfer is much simpler.

Can I fly into Dalaman instead?

You can, but Dalaman Airport is about 205 km from Bodrum, 3 hours or more by road. Dalaman is the better choice for Marmaris, Göcek and Fethiye: see our Dalaman Airport transfer guide and our Marmaris airport transfer page.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Transfer3E tracks your flight, so a delay of up to 6 hours costs nothing extra, and you get up to 90 minutes of free waiting at the airport. After that, waiting costs 10 euros per 15 minutes, paid in cash.
