From your ship to Istanbul Airport
On the morning your cruise ends, your driver waits for you at Galataport at the time you choose and takes you about 45 km to Istanbul Airport. The port and the airport are both on the European side, so there is no Bosphorus to cross; the drive takes 45 to 75 minutes, depending on traffic.
Leaving the ship takes a while: passengers usually disembark in groups, then collect their luggage and pass passport control in the underground terminal before they come up to the waterfront. Cruise lines usually advise against early flights on the day you leave the ship: with time to disembark, the drive and about 3 hours at the airport for an international flight, an afternoon flight is the safe choice.

At the end of a cruise most travellers have more luggage than on any other day of their trip, which makes trams, funiculars and changes between metro lines hard work. With a transfer, the car is waiting when you come up from the terminal, and the driver takes you straight to the departures level.
Arriving at Istanbul Airport for your flight
The driver drops you at the departures level of the terminal and helps you with your bags. A security check at the terminal entrance comes before check-in, so allow time for the queue, and be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight.
International and domestic flights leave from the same terminal. If you have a long wait before your flight, the departures area has plenty of cafés and shops after passport control.
