The drive from Istanbul Airport to Sabiha Gökçen Airport

Istanbul's two airports are about 90 km apart, on either side of the Bosphorus: Istanbul Airport near the Black Sea on the European side, Sabiha Gökçen near Pendik on the Asian side. The quickest road is usually the Northern Marmara Motorway over the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, which bypasses the city; when the traffic suits it better, the driver takes the TEM motorway and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge instead. The drive takes about 75 minutes in light traffic and up to two hours on weekday evenings.

Bridge and motorway tolls are included in our price. Most passengers on this route are changing planes, so we track your arriving flight and the driver waits for you if it lands late.

How you meet your driver

Five steps from the plane to the car.

  1. We follow your flightWith the flight number in your booking we watch your arrival time. If you land early or late, the driver adjusts; delays of up to 6 hours cost nothing extra.
  2. You get the meeting detailsBefore you arrive we confirm the meeting details on WhatsApp. Switch your phone on after landing so the driver can reach you.
  3. Passport control and baggageGo through passport control, collect your bags and walk through customs. Your 90 minutes of free waiting are counted from the moment your plane lands.
  4. Look for your nameYour driver waits in the arrivals hall on the ground floor with a sign showing your name or the 3E logo.
  5. To the carThe driver helps with your luggage and walks you to the car. You pay at the end of the ride, in cash, in Turkish lira, euros or dollars.

Istanbul Airport to Sabiha Gökçen: your options

There are four ways to get from Istanbul Airport to Sabiha Gökçen. This is how they compare.

OptionPriceTimeDoor to doorGood to know
Private transfer Fixed per vehicle, see prices above75–120 minYesDriver meets you in arrivals; tolls included, the price stays the same in traffic
Taxi Meter: about 4,400 TL, plus tolls75–120 minYesPrice rises in traffic; queue at the rank
Havaist bus 530 TL per personAbout 2 hoursNoPlatform 13 on the transportation floor (-2); about once an hour
Metro and Marmaray Lowest, İstanbulkart faresAbout 2½ hoursNoM11 to Halkalı, Marmaray to Ayrılık Çeşmesi, then the M4 to the airport

Fares checked in October 2026: taxi tariff of 20 July 2026, Havaist fare published in September 2026, İstanbulkart fare of July 2026. They change during the year.

Between two flights, time matters most. The Havaist bus runs about once an hour and takes around 2 hours, and the train about 2½ hours, with two changes and your luggage; Marmaray does not take bank cards, so you need an İstanbulkart. A taxi drives straight there, but its meter keeps running in traffic and the tolls come on top. With a transfer, the price is fixed and includes the tolls, and if your first flight lands late, the driver waits for you.

Arriving at Sabiha Gökçen Airport for your flight

The driver drops you at the departures level of the terminal and helps you with your bags. There is a security check at the terminal entrance, before check-in, so allow time for the queue, and be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight.

Domestic and international flights have separate check-in halls, so tell the driver which kind of flight you are taking. If you are changing planes, go straight to your airline's check-in desk: your bags are checked in again here.

Questions about this transfer

How long does the transfer from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) take?

About 75–120 minutes for roughly 90 km, depending on traffic.

Is the price per person?

No. The price is per vehicle and fixed when you book, so traffic does not change it.

Where does the driver meet me?

In the arrivals hall, holding a sign with your name. We follow your flight, so the driver is there even if you land late.

How much time do I need between my flights?

Leave at least 5 hours between landing at Istanbul Airport and taking off from Sabiha Gökçen, more if you drive in the weekday evening rush. Passport control and baggage claim take 30 to 60 minutes, the drive 75 minutes to 2 hours, and you should be at Sabiha Gökçen about 3 hours before an international flight. Airlines rarely protect a connection between two airports, so do not cut it fine.

Do I need a visa to change airports?

Changing airports means passing passport control and entering Turkey, so if your nationality needs a visa or e-Visa for Turkey, you need one for this transfer too. Your bags do not travel between the airports on their own: collect them at Istanbul Airport and check them in again at Sabiha Gökçen.

How much is a taxi between the two airports?

On the Istanbul meter, 71.94 TL to start plus 47.92 TL per kilometre since July 2026, the 90 km come to roughly 4,400 TL in normal traffic, plus the bridge and motorway tolls and more in a jam. Our price is fixed per vehicle, with tolls included.

Is there a bus between Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen?

Yes. Havaist's Sabiha Gökçen line costs 530 TL per person and leaves from platform 13 on the transportation floor (-2), which you reach by the lifts in front of the arrival hall doors. It runs about once an hour and takes around 2 hours, more in heavy traffic, so between two flights, check its departure times before you rely on it.

Can you also take me from Sabiha Gökçen to Istanbul Airport?

Yes. Book a pickup at Sabiha Gökçen, and the driver meets you in its arrivals hall; see our Sabiha Gökçen Airport transfer page.
