The drive from Istanbul Airport to Karaköy and Galata
Istanbul Airport and Karaköy are both on the European side of the city, so this transfer does not cross the Bosphorus. The road runs about 45 km south past Göktürk and Kağıthane into the city centre; the last two kilometres, down to the waterfront, are often the slowest. Late at night the drive takes about 45 minutes; on weekday mornings and evenings, allow up to 75.
Karaköy is the old harbour quarter at the mouth of the Golden Horn, and Galata the hill above it, crowned by the Galata Tower. From the waterfront at Tophane up to Şişhane at the top of the hill, its streets are full of small hotels, cafés and galleries. We drive to all of them, and to Cihangir and Beyoğlu nearby.

For Galata, the public options both end at Şişhane, at the top of the hill: the M2 metro, after a change at Gayrettepe, and Havaist's Sultanahmet line. From there the Galata Tower is a 5 to 7-minute walk downhill, and the Karaköy waterfront about 15 minutes. With suitcases, those steep streets are the hard part; a car takes you from the arrivals hall to your hotel, or as close to it as a car may go.
Arriving in Karaköy and Galata
The streets between the Karaköy waterfront and the Galata Tower are steep and narrow, and some are stepped or closed to cars. The driver takes you as close to your hotel's door as a car may go; where cars cannot enter, they stop at the nearest point and help you with your bags. Add your hotel's name and address when you book, and we plan the best approach.
From Karaköy the T1 tram crosses the Galata Bridge to Eminönü and Sultanahmet, the Tünel funicular climbs to the end of İstiklal Avenue in about a minute and a half, and ferries leave the waterfront for Kadıköy on the Asian side.

How much is a taxi from Istanbul Airport to Karaköy?
On the Istanbul meter, 71.94 TL to start plus 47.92 TL per kilometre since July 2026, the 45 km come to roughly 2,200 TL in normal traffic, more in a jam. Our price is fixed per vehicle and shown before you book.
Is there a Havaist bus to Karaköy or Galata?
Not to Karaköy itself. Havaist's Sultanahmet line (470 TL) leaves from platform 11 on the transportation floor (-2) and stops at Şişhane, at the top of Galata, and at Eminönü, across the Galata Bridge from Karaköy.
Is Karaköy near the cruise port?

Can you take me from Karaköy back to Istanbul Airport?
