The drive from Istanbul Airport to Beşiktaş
Istanbul Airport and Beşiktaş are both on the European side of the city, so this transfer does not cross the Bosphorus. The road runs about 40 km south-east past Kemerburgaz to Levent, then down Barbaros Boulevard to the Bosphorus at Beşiktaş. Late at night the drive takes about 40 minutes; on weekday mornings and evenings, when Levent and Zincirlikuyu are at their busiest, allow up to 80.
Beşiktaş runs along the European shore of the Bosphorus, from Dolmabahçe Palace past Ortaköy and Kuruçeşme to Bebek, and up the hill to Levent and Etiler. Some of Istanbul's grandest hotels stand on its waterfront; we drive to all of them, and to Nişantaşı and Şişli nearby.

For one person travelling light, the bus or the metro is the cheapest way. But not every Havaist bus stops in Beşiktaş, and the metro ends at Gayrettepe, up the hill, where the M11 platform lies 72 metres underground, the deepest in Istanbul; with suitcases, that means long escalator rides. From either stop, a hotel along the shore in Ortaköy, Kuruçeşme or Bebek is still a taxi ride away. A car is simpler: the driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you to your hotel's door, and the price does not change in traffic.
Arriving in Beşiktaş
The market streets of the Beşiktaş Çarşı, by the ferry pier, are narrow and crowded, as is the cobbled square by the mosque in Ortaköy. The driver takes you to your hotel's door wherever a car may stop; elsewhere they stop at the nearest point and help you with your bags. Hotels in Akaretler and on the slopes above the shore sit on steep one-way streets, so add your hotel's exact name when you book.
Most waterfront hotels between Dolmabahçe and Bebek stand on the shore road, which is slow at rush hour, around sunset and at weekends. From the pier in Beşiktaş, ferries cross to Üsküdar and Kadıköy on the Asian side.

Is there a Havaist bus to Beşiktaş?
Yes, but not on every departure. Havaist's buses to Beşiktaş go by way of 4. Levent and Zincirlikuyu and take about 75 to 90 minutes; the fare is 405 to 470 TL per person, depending on the line. They leave from the transportation floor (-2), which you reach by the lifts in front of the arrival hall doors; check the timetable on hava.ist for the departures that stop in Beşiktaş. For a hotel along the shore, in Ortaköy, Kuruçeşme or Bebek, you then need a taxi.
What happens on match days at the Beşiktaş stadium?
The stadium stands next to Dolmabahçe Palace, and on match days the roads around it are often closed or very slow from a few hours before kick-off until after the game. The driver plans a route around them; if your hotel is right by the stadium, the car may stop a short walk away. If you are flying out on a match evening, leave earlier.
Can you take me from Beşiktaş back to Istanbul Airport?
Yes. Book a pickup from your hotel in Beşiktaş. For an international flight we suggest leaving about 4 hours before departure, as Levent can be slow at rush hour.
